From the Cellar

Santa Carolina 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon, Reserva de Familia (Chile)

22 Jun 2016

(November 12, 2015) ... Not sure what I'm still doing in the "2003" section of my cellar, just a few days ago I was there with an old Chilean Merlot, but I wanted to prove to myself that there was something good that came out of Chile (and my cellar) from that year. Here we have a Cabernet Sauvignon from that same year and things started off pretty good with lots of pleasant aromas hinting at mocha, blackberry, black cherry, and plum along with smoky and that Chilean of all Cab aromas mint ... on the palate the first thing I noticed were the dry chalky tannins, along with the coffee bean, dark chocolate, spice, black pepper, cassis, and blackberry. This wine seems almost youthful and for its age comes off spectacularly good. Add-in the ground coffee bean with some dark chocolate on the finish a pleasant linger and my faith in 2003 has been restored.
