Sunnybrook 2009 Bosc Pear
Pears have got to be one of my favourite fruits. And Bosc my fav of the favourites, so I come to a glass of Bosc pear wine with a little bias. But truth be known, I find most Bosc pear wines lack the impact a good Bosc can deliver, so I’m usually open to trying but usually disappointed in the end. That approach led me to try this wine while at Sunnybrook – wanting to be excited but realizing I was most likely going to be let down … but hold the phone a moment, this time it was different. This wine was like biting into a fresh Bosc pear, complete with the tartness of the skin, a lingering finish that goes on and on, and the natural sweetness of the fruit on the mid-palate - all this in a “dry” wine. I’m told that the pears loved 2009 because of all that rain we had and that the ’09 rivals that other great year for pear, 1996. That year needed 4 years in bottle before the medals came pouring in. Not sure I could wait that long with this one, as far as I’m concerned, it’s ready to drink now. Price: $21.95 – Rating: ****½
