Creekside 2007 Laura Red
Not sure how I waited till a Vintages release to finally review this perennial favourite. This year the blend has incorporated all five Bordeaux varietals from the Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc along with Merlot and all the way to the 6% Malbec and .5 Petit Verdot. The nose is smoky black fruit with pencil shavings and herbs, while the palate is big and powerful – about what you’d expect from a wine with the 2007 vintage stamped on the label. Black fruit and smoke with a mixture of herbs take on the tongue while the abundance of tannins prove this one needs some time to come around – decant now or lie down 2-3 years before enjoying. Interesting to note that this wine is now under screwcap. Perfect for a carnivore’s dinner, no corkscrew needed to enjoy. Price: $19.95 – Rating: **** ½
