Queylus was conceived as a Pinot Noir / Chardonnay (read: Burgundy style) house … yet they could not ignore Merlot and Cabernet Franc, grape varieties that grow well and are popular in Ontario vineyards. This particular version is made from 4 year old vines and relies heavily on Merlot (85%), it exhibits a spicy-peppery intensity especially on the nose; in the mouth it’s round and full of fruit flavours dominated by raspberry, cherry and blackberry. In future years this blend will turn into the Grande Reserve. Price: $45.00 – Rating: *** ½+
