This is the inaugural vintage for the Locked and Loaded, and is the “little brother” of the more powerful, and pricier, Lock, Stock & Barrel that Rosewood started making 2 years ago. A Bordeaux-style blend of 66% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Cabernet Franc that spent 10 months in 30% new oak; it might be a baby brother, but it has some power all its own with a spicy mid-section and lots of tannin oomph! Aromas are black and blue berry with raspberry spice and hints of cinnamon and cedar … Right now the spice / tannins want to overwhelm, but with aeration raspberry and black currant begins to develop … it’ll need 2-3 years to come around … the good news: it is a lot of wine for not a lot of money – so take advantage and buy a few (at least). Price: $19.95 – Rating: ****
