Domaine Darius 2012 Chardonnay

Talk about a cottage winery, this tiny 5 ½ acre house/farm in Prince Edward County is run by Dave Gillingham who has been making wine for over 36 years. With Darius he finally goes commercial: This two barrel (old French / new American) 18 months aged on lees Chardonnay that has turned out alright. Nose of vanilla, butter and apple with a palate that follows suit but does come off a little heavy on the oak side and adds caramel apple and peach pit to the mouth giving it a rich mouthfeel. This is a Chard for those who like ‘em bigger and richer.  Price: $24.00 – Rating: *** ½+
