2012 Merlot is big, bold, robust and fruity because of our California-like vintage: aromas here are smoky with blackberry, plum and tobacco notes … 15% new oak was used and in total was a mix of US and French woods all for a total of 24 months; then it was bottle aged an additional 8 months to allow it to all come together. Currently the palate is plush yet smoky with blackberry and cassis, but could use another year or so to fully integrate; then it will drink well for another decade.  Price: $48.00 – Rating: ****
