These are the grapes that don’t quite make it into the single vineyard offerings – call it a second wine of sorts, but definitely not a lesser wine by any stretch of the imagination: cassis and anise lead things off while the palate comes across as simple yet seductive with its vanilla-smokiness, black raspberry and blueberry notes. The fruit shows off some good tannins and a black cherry – tobacco finish.  Price $26.95 – Rating: *** ½+
