It’s a new take on Pinot by Jackson-Triggs winemaker Marco Piccoli … single vineyard (Montague of Inniskillin fame) with 15% traditionally dried grapes, for 8 weeks, and another 15% going through Ripasso methods, helping to concentrate the flavours the grapes naturally acquire during the growing season. Then it’s all aged 8 months in French oak. The result is cran-cherry, plum and raspberry aromas followed by spicy-peppery goodness on the palate. Pinot Noir character seems suppressed in favour of what we find on the nose. It’s a well-made wine but it can be argued it ain’t Pinot, not the way most people think of it anyway.
