Chateau des Charmes 2007 Equuleus
The first time I tried this wine it was really a rough go - and so were the subsequent second, third and fourth tastings - those tannins would just not settle down. But here on my (at least) fifth tasting of the wine, and with many months in bottle, the wine is finally starting to show where it is going, and I am ready to pass judgement. There is lots of black cherry, cedar and spiced vanilla on the nose; while the palate has finally begun to mellow to the point where something besides grit and dryness are left behind: black fruit, cedar, vanilla, and spice are all still backed by that biting tannic finish. Hold another year or two before popping the cork, then it'll be good to go for another decade of longer ... in its youth be sure to use a decanter for best results. Price: $40.00 - Rating: **** 1/2
