Vineland Estates 2007 Merlot
Ontario Merlot always takes a little time to come around (even those aged minimally in oak - this one: 4 months), which is probably the reason why Vineland still has this wine on their shelves at the boutique; but now it's starting to turn the corner and become something delicious and very drinkable. Smells of smoky red fruit with a touch of cinnamon. The palate proves a little more complex and interesting: anise, smoked blackberry, nutmeg, clove with some lingering grip and grit from the tannins ... the mouth-feel is nice and lively with a long black raspberry / smoked cherry finish. Price: $16.95 - Rating: ****
