This is the first time Broken Stone has put Pinot Noir into a barrel, 1-2 months in new French oak to be precise. But because they wanted to avoid the too-much-oak, that new barrels can bring to a wine, 50% went into stainless steel. There's a nice balance of oak to fruit and a pretty spice sensation ... palate gives lots of spiced red berries, some earthiness and hints of cranberry and cran-cherry. Price: $23.95 - Rating: ****
