Grapes are dual-sourced from inland, Las Vertientes vineyard (85%) and the coastal, Chilhue vineyard (15%) bringing balance to the wine and much needed acidity. Then it spends 12 months in 10% new French oak. Aromas start off peppery and woodsy with spiced-raspberry in the background. After 30 minutes the nose goes raspberry and floral with delicate fruit … it keeps the pepper and spice but the fruit really begins to shine: raspberry, strawberry and white pepper. A modest 4-5 thousand cases are produced every year. Price: $19.95 – Rating: ****
