Cono Sur 2014 Pinot Noir, 20 Barrels

If you discount Chile as a place for making good Pinot Noir, then you're selling yourself short. This 85% old vines (planted in 1982) spends 12 months in barrel, but 20% of the wine stays in stainless steel – thereby keeping a fresh aspect. Aromas of black cherry, cranberry, mineral and violets lead to a palate that's rich and earthy with dark fruit: raspberry and blackberry, plus some cran-cherry, gentle tannins and nice acidity … hefty yet still delicate.  Price: $29.95 - Rating: ****+
