This Sicilian property owned by Piccini is home to one of their two ‘Volcanic Series’ wines. The grape is Nerello Mascolese, a cousin of Sangiovese, aged 1 year in French medium-toast barrels, and in the right hands proves to be quite the southern find: lots of red fruit and mineral with a vanilla seam – palate roars out of the gate with cherry, raspberry and lovely acidity; the finish layers in both passionfruit and pomegranate.
