For a guy that doesn’t like Chardonnay (and for once I’m not talking about myself here), owner / winemaker Gerard Spinosa is sure doing a great job with the grape. Sixteen months in new French mixed forest barrels (“though one might be Hungarian,” says Gerard) and in all only 5 barrels were made. The wine is buttery and oaky as expected with a rich creamy textures in the mouth; but there’s also quite a bit of fruit character including apricot, baked apple and pear notes – and to top it off you’ll find a lovley spiced vanilla cream … lovely. Gold medal winner for the best Chardonnay in Ontario at the Ontario Wine Awards (2nd year in a row). Price: $35.00 – Rating: ****+
