It’s a shame my sister doesn’t drink, because a case of this would have been a perfect wedding gift – oh well, back to the drawing board on that one. On the other hand, I have no idea how she would have got it to Australia, where she’ll be spending the first three years of her married life. I guess I failed to mention here that my sister’s name is Rebecca, and now the astute amongst you have probably already figured out the connection – Rebecca Rosé, so you have to know I was slightly partial to this one before I even opened the bottle. So let’s keep in mind that my sister will never try this and I’ll let you in on why I think she should break her self-imposed vow of abstinence. This pink is a blend of Syrah, Petite Sirah and Merlot that takes the notion of pink very seriously. The smells are strawberry, raspberry, kiwi and citrusy-grapefruit. The palate offers up fun flavours like a citrus beginning before turning watermelon-like and red Jolly Rancherish. But it’s not a sweety by any stretch, it has a pink grapefruit cocktail finish that’s refreshing and very summery.
