Calamus Estate 2007 Half Penny Rosé
Serious rosés are dry, “playful” rosés are slightly sweet and then there are the candied, sickeningly sweet versions – those are the ones that most people associate with when they hear the word “rosé”. But this one might help change your mind, because it falls on the serious side and is very tasty. The nose has touches of raspberry and sour cherry – nothing that grabs you by the lapel and shakes you, just very subtle aromas. The palate, on the other hand, has a little more umph! Lovely cranberry and raspberry on the tongue, with a little hint of cherry on the dry, crisp finish. There’s a nice seam of acidity that keeps this one on the dry side and gives it a pleasantly long finish with a mix of cranberry and cherry. Seriously good. Price: $13.00 – Rating: ****
