Winemaker and owner of Nyarai, Steve Byfield, seems to have been quiet of late but he comes out swinging with this delicious 2014 red blend that’s Cabernet Sauvignon dominated (a bit of a surprise for this vintage) with Cabernet Franc, Merlot and even some Malbec playing a part. Slight green note, as you’d expect of Sauvignon in 2014, but there’s also some red fruit backing, a slight spicy note and good acidity finishing it off – this is a very fruit forward, enjoyable red, and a pleasure to open with dinner.
