What a story this wine tells: a late November picking from the good 2015 vintage (which was a short crop season). Aged 20 months in a mix of three types of barrels – the surprise here is that 54% was Canadian oak, while the French and American were equally divided (23% each). 13 barrels made the final assemblage resulting in a rich, robust and smoky affair showcasing bittersweet chocolate, mocha, coffee, with subtle oak nuances in the background and lot of spice and pepper on the finish. This one should age gracefully for a decade of more. Price: $44.00 – Rating: ****+
