Commisso Winery 2017 Rosso

Another new Ontario Winery who boasts Andrzej Lipinski as their winemaker (this is yet another winery he helped get started, I’ve lost count) ... The moniker on the label is Commisso at Villa Bacchus and their tagline is "A Taste of Italy, in Niagara”. This is their “Rosso” – or entry-level red as it would be known in Italy - a simple red wine for everyday drinking: that brings together Cabernet Franc (50%), Merlot (30%) Petit Verdot (10%) and some Dornfelder (10%) for color, but also helps kick up the acidity. Tobacco and sour cherry with notes of raspberry, white pepper, vanilla and spice. The palate comes across quite juicy and there's a nice dose of cherry that swings in to balance out the tannins and spice.  Price: $14.95 - Rating: ****
