Featherstone 2006 Sauvignon Blanc
While I lingered around Featherstone, I heard Louise (owner) refer to this wine as “Savvy B” on more than one occasion. To me it showed a certain intimacy towards the wine, like calling a William, “Billy”. I think during her time off, Louise spent much of her time getting savvy with Billy, and why not, it’s tasty. Dave (winemaker) did some interesting things with this one, most interestingly is the double harvest: half the grapes at 17 brix (lower sugar content) and then waiting till the others reached 22 brix (high sugar content) – fermented and vinified them separately then blended. The result is a pretty sexy glass of vino. Tropical notes hit the nose first with hints of lime, grass and hay (typical Sauv Blanc notes); in the mouth citrus takes over your buds with racy acidity, making this one a thirst quencher as well as an easy sipper for the patio. And for those of you worried about all that earlier talk about sugar have no fear, it’s a dry zero. Get to know this Savvy B and by summer’s end you’ll be on an intimate name basis too.
