Hillebrand 2006 Sauvignon Blanc – Artist Series
This bottle of screwcap Sauvignon Blanc is one of the few in Hillebrand’s arsenal and part of their value priced Artist Series: a series of wines that have a unique piece of artwork on the label from a “contemporary Ontario artist”. The Sauvignon Blanc’s artist is Deborah Campo and the name of the piece is The Petrified Forest – which was inspired by the Georgian Bay landscape. These bottlings are just one way that Hillebrand combines culture with wine; but culture and wine are nothing if your fancy is not tickled by what is being presented – it’s all about taste. I’ll leave the decision of the label up to you, but as for what’s in the bottle, well there I can help. Not your usual Sauvignon Blanc, the way the Kiwi’s have us “mouth-washed” into thinking about them, the nose is soft, light citrus with melon and floral aromas. On the palate, you’ll find cantaloupe and soft citrus nuances, like lemon drop candy, which stands to reason: the mid-palate seems almost sweet but the tart finish makes this refreshing from the first tongue stroke to the last.
