Hillebrand 2007 Trius White
Last year Hillebrand introduced us to the newest wine in their Trius line-up, a white blend to pair up with their red Trius blend … it did very well. As the old saying goes in Hollywood, “if you do well with the first, make a sequel” – or something like that. This year’s version is 37% Gewurztraminer, 33% Riesling, 27% Pinot Gris and 3% Chardonnay. There is also an element of barrel fermentation with the Gewurzt (about half) and Pinot Gris (all), which gives the wine a better mouth presence and greater richness. The nose takes on most of the Gewurzt character with floral, rosy, with peachy, appley and lemony also along for the ride; while the taste takes more of the Riesling to heart with a mineral, peach and apple components. Good acidity balances it off nicely with the mineral, peach and apple all delivering right to the end on the mid-length finish. It is my opinion that this one has more depth and complexity than the ’06, and while the ’06 was a nice wine, this one’s even better; which means the threequel is a foregone conclusion. Price: $18.95
