Huff Estates is on my list of the top five wineries in Prince Edward County, and they prove why they are on that list once again with this blend. This award winning Cab-Merlot (Top honoured red at the Artevino awards – the Prince Edward County wine awards) is sourced from their South-Bay vineyard, located in the southeast corner of The County and is Huff Estates most prized vineyard according to winemaker Frederic Picard. The nose reveals black cherries, cranberries, some raspberry, smoky cinnamon and vanilla aromas. The taste is just as interesting with rhubarb, cherries, some good oak spiciness and a dusty tannin structure. As the wine opens up (say 30 minutes in) some milk chocolate notes begin to course through the mouth. A great BBQ wine that’s easy to drink. There’s no reason not to like this wine … not one I can think of anyway.
