If the Malivoire Pinots could be equated to a rocket this Mottiar Vineyard Pinot is stage 2 … it has the simplicity of the entry level Pinot without getting too far ahead of itself. The Mottiar Vineyard is the personal 5-acre vineyard of winemaker Shiraz Mottiar and the vines are no more than 10 years old. The nose is ripe with sour cherry – at first you’ll have trouble picking it out but once the air begins to work its magic on the wine you’ll get it. Then the palate takes over with lots of red berry fruit: cherry and strawberry with a long cherry finish wrapped up in silky tannins – quite an elegant and supple Pinot. Price: $34.95 – Rating: ****
