Coyote's Run 2010 Red Paw Pinot Gris
You have to be growing up on the wrong side of the soil if you haven’t heard that an Ontario winery has both red and black soils on their property and are planting their grapes on each to compare the results. That winery’s name is Coyote’s Run and their about to do their soil ‘speriment on Pinot Gris. In 2010, so the story goes, the grapes looked more like red grapes than their typical grey-ish colour and reached ripeness levels of 24 brix. The nose is rich in peach and green apple with a touch of floral. Taste is apple and peach with hints of lemon-lime and good acidity to balance. The black soil fruit is a few years behind but this is a good benchmark to start with; a very summery wine with a slightly bitter finish that seems to play off well against the sweet fruit on the mid-palate. Price: $17.95 – Rating: ****+
