Two Sisters 2013 Eleventh Post

I’m not thrilled with the price of this wine, and I explain at the end of this review – but if you look at the pricing of the rest of the Two Sisters wines this does come across as a real bargain … The seemingly throw away Eleventh Post, dominated by Cabernet Franc this year with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot being more of less equal in the blend, spends 32 months in French (10% American) oak to give it weight and texture, something not expected from wines in this vintage. Aromas of tobacco, black currant and star anise lead to a layered palate of tobacco, herbal, smoky and spicy character that layers in dark fruit, dried floral, and anise seed before giving way to a long tobacco-herbal finish.  Look, I’ll hand it to Mr. Pearce for making one of the best 2013 red blends I have tasted, it’s a wine you could drink all day and not get tired of it … but at that price it’s hard to afford more than a bottle or two for the average consumer.
