If I gave out things like “most improved wine” awards this would be right up there on my list of recipients. The 2015 seemed over-oaked to me, but Marc Pistor dialed it back in 2016 with 15% new French and 15% new American – macerating the grapes for 30 days – giving a nice dark colour to the final product; and the 10-15% whole cluster pressing added yet another layer here … This 100 case production is full of smoky-tobacco, plenty of dark fruit like cassis and blackberry, hints of cedar and vanilla, good tannin punch and a long luxurious finish. Now it’s the wine to buy and the one I was hoping he made in 2015 – a year late, but well worth the wait.  Price: $44.00 – Rating: **** ½
