Fully expected this California version to be over-oaked and over-the-top; but instead I was pleasantly surprised. Sure there's a creamy mouthfeel upon entry, but there's also some acidity on the back end that helps to balance this wine; plus there is some unexpected fruitiness: apple, bosc pear, lemon peel and even the oak is well-integrated so it does not overwhelm the senses.
