From the Cellar

Just because I started a website called OntarioWineReview.com doesn't mean it's All-Ontario-All-the-Time. When I kick back at night my mood (and sometimes my curiosity) decides my wine of choice. And the title should read, "Uncorked and Un-Screwed Tonight" ... but that just sounds wrong.

Banfi 2009 LaLus, Albarossa (Italy)

17 Nov 2015

(July 3, 2015) ... If you've made it here you've either come from the night of attrocious wines or you're a Banfi / La Lus fan ... La Lus is a fav of mine, I just love what Banfi does with this Albarossa and so far it seems to be aging quite well. I opened this as a last ditch effort to get on my buddy Larry's good side (see Six on the Deck). The aromas are what should lure you into this wine: black cherry, cassis, black raspberry, and licorice; the palate is what keeps you coming back for more: nice silky dark fruit, touched by red berries, licorice, with a mocha-cherry finish.

James Mitchell 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Lodi (California)

17 Nov 2015

(June 30, 2015) ... Not sure you could tell from the dates but I fell pretty far behind on these write ups this summer - too busy drinking, not enough writing ... I also had plenty of family visiting so I took this opportunity of a little peace and quiet in the house (before the next storm arrived) to enjoy a little California Cabernet. Ripe and ready from nose to tongue: aromas of cassis, black raspberry, and mocha all lead to a palate where that coffee comes thru, along with anise, a mixture of red and black currants, nice acidity, and a smoked-plum finish.
