Taste it Again: Malivoire 2005 Pinot Noir, Beamsville Bench

06 Sep 2015

(May 8, 2015) ... Every year, immediately following the Ontario Wine Awards gala evening, I drag my ass home and begin to type up that year's winners, my goal is to have the article out before midnight, or at least in time for those early risers the following day. This year I popped the cork on a ten year old Malivoire wine as I typed, which in turn made me stop and take a few notes. I think what struck me about this wine was how fresh and lively it still tasted. Aromas were cran-cherry, white pepper, and earthy - about what I'd expect from a (much younger) Pinot Noir. Palate also proved to be deceptively young: dried and sour cherry, tart cranberry, red nibs on the finish and a pleasantly dry linger and an impressively smooth cross-over the tongue. Gorgeous.
