Taste it Again: Palatine 2004 Juliette Blanc de Blanc

23 Mar 2016

(September 18, 2015) ... Back in the day before every Tom, Dick and Harry winemaker was making bubbly in Niagara, there were only a few patient enough to wait the allotted time to put a bubbly on the table ... Palatine was one of those wineries. This 11 year old sparkling still had nice colour, seemed light and fizzy when poured into the glass - which is a good start. The nose showed aged signs typical of Sparkling: citrus, stale bread crust and almond ... The palate was not as forgiving of its years, here's where it showed all of them: poached apple, lime and baked bread, started things off well, but on the finish is where things turned a tad funky: sour with a lengthy finish that was less than appealing, in fact it detracted from ones desire to take another sip - I took three before succumbing. Sadly it's gone.
