Reif Estate 2010 The Magician
The last time Reif pulled off this magic trick of Shiraz (70%) and Pinot Noir (30%) with dried fruit (in tobacco kilns) I was pretty impressed – and that was in a so-so vintage. The 2010 has a richer palate, but let’s start with aromas: blackberry and earthiness are the simple smells, while the palate is where the wine really shines with Pinot leading the charge with its sour cherry notes, while rich blackberry and sour cherry are your main favours. There’s also an element of chocolate and cherry on the entry with a sour cherry finish –interesting process for making this wine makes for a very interesting, and tasty, final product. Price: $29.95 – Rating: ****
