Tawse 2010 Chardonnay, Robyn’s Block
I was slightly shocked to see this bottle with a screwcap on it, not that I’m against screwcap in anyway – I’m all for getting the best out of a bottle of wine – but this is the first over-40 dollar bottle from Tawse I’ve seen with this closure; but I can’t fault them, with wine this good one should not have to worry about cork taint. A nose that’s simply lovely with butter, smoked spices, a hint of caramel and baked apple – the palate is also very attractive: poached pear, baked apple, grilled peach all sautéed in butter with hints of spice and nice acidity. Delicious. Only 6700 bottles produced. Price: $45.95 – Rating: ****+
