Chateau des Charmes 2012 Nouveau - Generation Seven Gamay Nouveau
Stop the presses ... or should that be start the presses ... I would love to tell you that Niagara is in the throes of harvest, but at this late date it's almost over for a majority of the wineries and just the big reds need to come in - 2012 was an early harvest. Today the first bottle of proof that their was a 2012 harvest arrived at my door, the Chateau des Charmes Generation Seven Nouveau comes complete with hash tag on the front label, so that you can let them know exactly what you think of the wine (#JeSuisArrive). The wine is made in the classic Beaujolais Nouveau style of pick, press, ferment and bottle ... as fresh as you can get, these grapes were growing just some two months ago. Ripe cherries, layered with fresh grape juice notes, there are also hints of raspberry and good acidity to keep it from being just a sweet alcoholic grape juice. Turned out to be great with lunch of smoked meat and chips - a quaffer that my non-red drinking wife exclaiming, "I really like that" after her first two sips ... and if the wife likes it you know it's gotta be good. Fresh, fruity and chillable for maximum enjoyment ... this is a nice return to the nouveau style for the Chateau. Official release is November 15, 2012 (which is the traditional release day for Beaujolais Nouveau as well).Price: $11.95 - Rating: ****
