Lakeview Cellars 2011 Riesling Reserve
This is a single vineyard Riesling that comes from Roller Vineyard - my understanding is that "Roller" is an assistant winemaker at Lakeview - so these are pretty exciting times to see one's grapes get made into a wine and labelled as a single vineyard. I liked this wine, the talc and lemon zest on the nose which follows in the mouth with a chalky, pseudo-sweetness and lemon pith/zest finish balanced with acidity ... so my big question is with such a lovely wine in the bottle, why-oh-why did they seal this with a plastic cork? It's because of this that I have to mark the wine down because the potential for aging (which there was plenty of) has just been diminished. Word to the wise: if you spend the money to make a good, age-able wine, don't cheap out on the most important aspect of aging, the cork. ... Drink Now, do not hold. Price: $16.95 - Rating: *** 1/2
