Harbour Estates 1999 Riesling Icewine
They say Vidal Icewine will last up to ten years (I’ve had some good 8 year old ones), on the other hand, from my experience, Gewurztraminer is much shorter lived … but Riesling, well the sky's the limit here. Some Riesling table wines have been known to age gracefully 50-plus years, but Riesling Icewine does not have that kind of track record (yet) to look upon – so all we can do is keep making and tasting them to check on their progress. This one, made back in 1999, and a winner at the 2002 All Canadian Wine Championships, shows signs of its age in color only (amber in colour); the flavors are still vibrant and tasty. Honey, apple, pear, butterscotch, vanilla are all among the flavours and aromas you'll pick up - add those to the dried apricot on the lingering finish and you have yourself something truly special.
