A Cool Climate Chardonnay attendee: I would not consider 2007 a “cool” vintage in the context of the Cool Climate Chardonnay competition … so to make a good Chardonnay was a real balancing act to maintain fruit and acidity; one that performed that trick well was this Peller Sur Lie version – whether the word is “lie” or lee”, it still means it rested on dead yeast cells to complex-up the flavours. This one saw only 11 months of in-barrel ageing (80% French and 20% America of which 40% was new), with the lees/lies adding additional complexity. The nose shows lemon and pineapple while the palate delivered tropical flavours and the fruitiness of candied pineapple. Price: $30.00 – Rating: ****
