Pillitteri 2002 Family Reserve Merlot
The year two thousand and two was very good to Pillitteri. Their Cabernet Franc of that year won the OntarioWineReview Cabernet Franc Challenge back in November 2007 with the highest rated score of ANY wine. They have also won many other prestigious awards for that vintage. As these spectacular wines continue to age, the accolades for their greatness continue to roll in. Now check out this Merlot for instance … Merlot in Ontario usually needs time to age and come into its own. Now, with 6 years under its belt, we’re starting to see why Merlot does need a few gray hairs to show well. Smells and tastes of the following: blackberries, cassis, raspberry, cherry, an array of spices and a nice chocolate seam. Rich and complex, lush and plush, downright delicious – with still a few years ahead of it. Cellar for 5-10 more years and watch it change, or drink now, your choice. This is a wonderful wine from a wonderful year - and I’ll drink to that. Price: $39.95 Also check out the 2002 Merlot Reserve.
