Ontario Reviews

13th Street 2007-Tasting - “Reds”
Man are we torn about this wine … not because the panel was split on it’s decision – (we unanimously praised it, in fact we’re buying more), but because we usually write our reviews about Ontario VQA wines. In the end it was determined that this one just had to be written. This blend comes from California and Ontario grapes, but made right here in Ontario by one of the most interesting wineries to ever dot the Ontario landscape. A mix of Cabernet Sauvignon from Ontario and Californian Zinfandel and Syrah from Sonoma, that the boys of 13th Street blend into this satisfying crowd pleaser (and we should know, our crowd was very pleased). The wine starts off dry but ends kinda sweet (yet it is a zero) with a great lingering finish in the mouth. Your nose will pick up black cherry, hints of white pepper and sweet fruit in the glass. In the mouth there’s tones of fruit with mild tannins that make this wine smooth, easy going down and drinkable right now. The entire panel could not stop raving and neither will you. At $18.00, this ones a little pricey to be your everyday drinker, but it’s well worth every penny and every drop for a pseudo-special occasion (like the weekend) – too bad we couldn’t squeeze out the glass.
