This really is a no nonsense wine. It’s nice, easy, approachable and ready to drink. It’s medium-bodied with a medium length finish. Ken Douglas informed me that they sampled all their barrels of 2004 Franc and decided on a few to make into this straight Franc, “the ones without the herbaceous tones to them, and the ones with more subtle nuances and flavours” – and they were right to do so. On the nose, there are subtle hints of cherry and on the palette, you’ll find prominently a sweet cherry core. As Ken wanted, this Franc lacks the usual herbaceous aromas and tastes of many Ontario Francs, which makes it, you guessed it, incredibly and readily quaffable.
