Tawse 2007 Quarry Road Chardonnay
A Cool Climate Chardonnay attendee: I would not consider 2007 a “cool” vintage in the context of the Cool Climate Chardonnay competition … so to make a good Chardonnay was a real balancing act to maintain fruit and acidity; one that performed that trick well was this Tawse Quarry Road version, barrel fermented with 15 months of age to give it that butterscotch, vanilla, toffee note on the nose which follows on the palate; so as you can imagine, it’s especially tasty to those of us who dig those sweetish flavours. The acidity level seems a bit lax, lacking the punch you’d expect from Ontario cool vintage Chards but there is some there to keep the wine in balance, just in a very small amount.
