Tawse 2009 Quarry Road Gewurztraminer
You start here by looking at the bottle, very distinguished, elegant and tall ... this isn't a bottle that'll fit easily into the door of the fridge. Then you pop the milky white cork - very pretty. Now, pour and sniff - oh yeah, this is Gewurzt alright, no doubt, rose petals grab the nose and won't let go. But all of this equals up to nothing if the elegance, the prettiness and those aromas don't pay off in the mouth ... but they do. A crisp rosy-lychee palate with real crisp acidity. I would have liked a longer finish, but can you really quibble with such a spot on example of a G-wine that has such lovely flavour? It's hard to. The wine softens with time in the glass (say 30-45 minutes) but it's winningly sippable throughout its time in glass. Price: $24.95 - Rating: ****1/2
