Hinterbrook 2010 Franc Blanc
Does price and reviews matter if a wine is completely sold out? As I write this the last bottle of Hinterbrook's Franc Blanc is gone from their shelves. An interesting, if not unique for Ontario, wine made from Cabernet Franc grapes that were turned into a white wine. You read that correctly - Franc made into white wine. So what was the big deal that made this wine fly off the shelf: blood orange and muted citrus along with tropical notes on the nose. More muted tropical followed onto the palate with hints of Bosc pear and some minerality with a tangerine linger on the finish. Strange to see a red grape made into a white wine, though it does help to prove that all grape juice is white. Is this a new trend for Ontario wineries - it awaits to be seen, but for now only those who were flight of foot got a bottle of this intriguing and tasty experiment. Rating: *** 1/2+
