Fielding 2008 Rock Pile Pinot Gris
Saddle up your Jack Rabbit and away we go to Fielding to buy some Pinot Gris … I hear you saying “pardon?”. Don’t get to confused folks let me explain. The grapes for this Gris come from 20-year-old vines located in a vineyard the folks of Fielding call “Jack Rabbit Flats” – not just because there are rabbits there, but because the rabbits are the size of Shetland Ponies. But whatever effect the rabbits are having on those grapes they should just keep right on doing it. The smells revolve around mineral, melon and Barlett pear; while the flavours show a complexity of floral, citrus and mineral you’ll most certainly pick out. Rounding it out is the nice acidity and an almost Gewurztraminer-like character on the finish. Only 162 cases produced. Price: $24.00 – Rating: ****½
