Here's one that won't tax the palate with intricate flavours and smells of bready, biscuity and yeasty notes. I'm talking of course about sparkling wine here - and when it comes to bubblies this one is as simple as bubbly gets, but it's also as tasty as one can get in a base-model-Charmat method bubbly. It's made from Pinot Blanc, a fairly fruity grape to begin with. The nose is full of sweet fruit notes like citrus and pear; the palate is simple yet tasty with nice sweetness reminiscent of pears and lemon pith. The acidity is clean, the finish is refreshing ... the wine is pleasant, and as one friend said "very unoffensive, but really good." Price: $15.95 - Rating: ***+
