Flat Rock Cellars 2005 The Rusty Shed Chardonnay
Harking back to the previous vintage of this wine I would have to say that the 2004 Rusty Shed was my favourite Chardonnay of last year … it was just so unique, not just in name, but in flavours and aromas as well. When you’re at the winery, take a look out the back windows into the heart of the vineyard and you’ll spy the ‘Rusty Shed’ this wine is named after. Now maybe that shed imparts something to these grapes because the 2005 is another strong contender for my Chardonnay of the year. The nose is soft with sweet vanilla, tropical fruit and hints of banana; your tongue will also enjoy what’s going on, the wine is smooth and light tasting with vanilla-butteriness and a touch of the spicy; culminating in an unsalted-melted-butter on light popcorn finish … this wine is full of finesse and aging potential. Drink now or hold to see what kind of grace develops within.
