Flat Rock Cellars 2008 Twisted
Since its inception, back in 2004, I have been a fan of this wine – and over the years I have met others who count themselves amongst the fans of this white blend. People who are self-admitted “white wine haters” dig this blend of Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Chardonnay. Well, for lovers and haters alike, this year’s version is bound to bring more fans to the Twisted family fold. The nose starts out with tropical aromas, like pineapple and mango, there’s also hints of floral and mineral notes. But where this wine truly shines in on the palate. The tropical fruit continues here exploding on the tongue like a tropical fruit salad that dances playfully along – there are also flavours of pear, red and golden delicious apples, lychee, nuances of mineral and hints of lemon. The acidity is crisp, with lemon like bite, and there’s such good balance here – nothing overpowers or overwhelms, there’s not one dominant flavour or smell, they all seem to work in harmony to give you a complete wine experience; what’s more, the finish is so very appealing, long and luscious. Twisted is usually a wine built for summer sipping, the 2008 version seems to taken it up to another level as an anytime sipping. And it’s still a great value. Price: $16.95 – Rating: *****
