Rosewood Estates 2008 Mead Noir
Mead with fruit flavouring interests me, but I don’t think I have ever tried a mead with wine flavouring … Now that kind of combination interests me even more. First thing you’ll notice about this wine is the great salmon colour, which is derived from a mix of Mead (honey wine) and Pinot Noir. The nose has lifted sweet cherries and raspberries along with a wafting of bubble gum card wrapper. I was told that’s because the cardboard gum which came packaged with the cards actually was coated with a form of powdered honey (remember the white powder? That was powdered honey). Flavours follow the nose with lovely cherry and raspberry notes along with a nice hint of Bazooka Joe. There’;s also a lovely lingering finish that flips and flops between bubble gum and ripe red cherries – it starts gummy but lingers cherry. Very nice and fun for the holidays, make ‘em guess what’s in the glass. Price: $25.00 – Rating: ****
